Day 2
Fort Mifflin
Commissioned in 1771, Fort Mifflin has the distinction of being one of the only intact Revolutionary War Battlefields. It was from this fort that 400 cold and starving soldiers held the mighty British Navy at bay so George Washington and his Continental Army could reach Valley Forge safely. The heroic efforts of the soldiers at Fort Mifflin are celebrated at this National Historic Landmark. The fort also served the nation during the Civil War, WWI and WWII.
Located on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, Fort Mifflin has become a favorite destination for history buffs as well as ghost hunters. In fact, it’s widely regarded as one of the most haunted places in the United States. The most famous apparition is “the screaming woman,” who has been known to scream so loud that the police have been called, only to find no evidence of a woman in distress. The “screaming woman” may be the most vocal ghostly resident of the fort, but she is not alone. There have been sightings of a faceless man and a lamplighter among others.
Visitors are invited to explore the scary side of Fort Mifflin and decide for themselves if the historic site has earned its ghostly reputation.
In addition to regular tours, guests can participate in both private and open paranormal investigations of the fort. Popular Candlelight Tours are offered throughout the year with the next tour being held tonight, October 28th.
On Saturday, October 29th guests will have the incredible opportunity to Sleep With The Ghosts. Join experts in an overnight paranormal investigation, where you will explore the buildings, myths and legends within the walls of the fort! There were a limited amount of tickets still available at the time of this post. Check the website to confirm availability.
