Join The Clay Studio for a day-long symposium exploring the art and ideas behind Making Place Matter, the inaugural exhibition in its newly built South Kensington home. Each artist explores the idea of a place with regard to personal history, cultural heritage, and social justice. The free symposium features multiple panels, including one led by Making Place Matter co-curator Elizabeth Essner with Peruvian-born artist Kukuli Velarde, American-born, Massachusetts-based artist Molly Hatch, and Egyptian American artist Ibrahim Said, now based in North Carolina. Additionally, the program will include a special performance by Velarde, hands-on activities, and conclude with a special keynote address from Dr. Kelli Morgan, Director of Curatorial Studios at Tufts University. Lunch will be provided. Making Place Matter is supported by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. The Making Place Matter Symposium is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
