Commemoration of the Invocation at the First Continental Congress

This free public event in the courtyard outside Carpenters’ Hall will commemorate the 246th anniversary of the invocation given at the start of the First Continental Congress in 1774. Rev. Dr. Susan Richardson, Assistant Minister at Christ Church in Old City, and Jennifer Childs, Rector’s Warden at St. Peter’s Church in Society Hill, will recite the invocation. Other speakers include Michael Norris, Executive Director of The Carpenters’ Company; Hon. Mary Isaacson, Pennsylvania State Representative; and Park Ranger Matthew Ifill from Independence National Historical Park. After the ceremony, Carpenters’ Hall will be open for small group tours.

Due to COVID-19, we are doing our utmost to keep this event safe. Mask wearing is mandatory, and registration is limited so we can control social distancing.
