A Christmas Carol

Event Dates

Dec 8-13

Location

Majestic Theater

25 Carlisle Street

Gettysburg, PA 17325

Since its first presentation in 1987, this production of A Christmas Carol has been celebrated by thousands of theatergoers and had become a favorite holiday tradition for young and old alike. A Christmas Carol returns bigger and better than ever in its NEW home at Gettysburg College’s Majestic Theater, in Gettysburg, PA. This ninety-minute adaptation of the second most popular Yuletide story of all time, A Christmas Carol, simply and directly tells the redemption of the human soul and preserves the beautiful language, charm and humor of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. Set in Victorian England, the play opens on a busy London Street with Christmas Eve shoppers and vendors alike caught up in the holiday spirit. Their enthusiasm is quickly dampened with the arrival of miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge who considers the
celebration a waste of time and money. Retiring to his dark and lonely quarters above his counting house, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who informs him that he will be visited by three spirits: The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Christmas Yet to Come. Scrooge meets these specters and is taken on a journey where he encounters acquaintances from his past and present and glimpses what the future is to be. He learns a great deal and when it is Christmas morning, he awakens to find himself caught up in the magic of Yuletide. Over 45 actors, singers and dancers bring Dickens’ story beautifully to life with music and good humor as the giant pop-up book of a backdrop opens so that all who see A Christmas Carol will discover the true magic of the holiday season.
