The Allenberry Resort is a great getaway for couples any time of year but,  winter feels just a little cozier. 

The Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs, Cumberland County, has seen many changes over the years, but one thing that has been a constant is the bucolic landscape that has drawn guests for 75 years. The original tract of land was granted to James Crockett (a distant relative of Davy) in 1786. Crockett built two of the existing limestone buildings – a small two-story dwelling situated on the bank of the Yellow Breeches Creek, now known as the Still House, and a large bank barn, known as Fairfield Hall, which houses The Barn Restaurant.

Between 1812 and 1820, George Belzhoover, who purchased the property in 1798, added two more limestone buildings – a large farmhouse known as the mansion house and a second stone barn that later became known as the Stone Lodge and Carriage Room.

The Yellow Breeches Creek is a world-renown destination for trout.

The property would change hands again in 1928 before being sold to Charles A.B. Heinze in 1944. Heinze felt very strongly that Allenberry was a gem that needed to be shared with the public, and for the next 72 years the Heinze family owned and operated Allenberry On-The-Yellow Breeches, a Resort Inn and Playhouse. Over the decades, Allenberry became a place of relaxation and entertainment.

Under new ownership since 2016, the limestone buildings have all been renovated, bringing back the original historic charm. The countryside resort has 16 buildings where guests can stay, relax, dine and be entertained. From weddings to family vacations, the resort has once again become an idyllic destination in the heart of southcentral Pennsylvania.

There truly is nothing more peaceful in my mind than the sound of water flowing over rocks in a creek. The Yellow Breeches Creek is known as a world-class fly-fishing destination, but guests also enjoy kayaking and tubing on the creek. The resort offers special year-round fly-fishing packages from a One-Day Fly Fishing Experience to a three-and-a-half-day Hallowed Waters Tour. Guys, if you want to score some big points in the romance department, book a winter getaway and she may even let you get some fly-fishing in. Close proximity to the Appalachian Trail makes Allenberry the perfect getaway for outdoors enthusiasts.

In 2019, the Playhouse will celebrate 70 years of bringing live theater to Allenberry.

Since 1949, the Playhouse has been the entertainment epicenter of the resort. Famous actors like a young John Travolta and Shirley Jones have graced the Playhouse stage. This winter, the Playhouse at Allenberry will present The Man Who Saved Christmas and It Shoulda Been You. The springtime will bring male and female versions of The Odd Couple and Monty Python’s Spamalot to the stage. In addition to the theater, Allenberry hosts Murder Mystery Weekends at the resort.

The Allenberry Resort offers two dining experiences: The Barn Restaurant and The Breeches Café. The rustic chic feel of The Barn Restaurant offers the perfect atmosphere for the seasonal dishes served using local farm-to-table ingredients. The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

The Breeches Cafe is the place to go the get your day started right. Delicious made-from-scratch breakfasts and great coffee from Little Amps Coffee Roasters of Harrisburg provide the nutrition you need for your day on the creek or just relaxing by the creek.
