New Year’s Eve Drops (and raises) in PA 2024

Towns throughout Pennsylvania bring in the new year by dropping or raising objects that are associated with the town. Some honor their history and others celebrate with objects that reflect the town’s name. Each event is a treasured slice of Americana that I hope continues for generations.

Shamokin – Coal Drop  – 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Pearl St. Shamokin
Live music at 830pm featuring Lo Brau. Enjoy cozy Outdoor Tents with Firepits & Heaters and FREE Hot Dogs & Sauerkraut! DETAILS

Sunbury – Light Bulb Drop – Downtown Sunbury.
Come enjoy Great Food, Drinks, Live Music, Fireworks and More! DETAILS

Lebanon – Bologna Drop 10 to midnight – South 8th Street, between Chestnut and Cumberland Streets.
D.J. Jim Payne playing music. Seltzer’s Smokehouse Meats will provide the bologna that will be attached to the disco ball. . DETAILS

Dillsburg – Pickle Drop – 9 p.m. to midnight – Baltimore Street.
Live music by Buckskin Whiskey. Food Vendors. Pickle Drop and fireworks in the parking lot by Ace Hardware. DETAILS

Mechanicsburg – Wrench drop – 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in front of the Washington Fire Company
Family-friendly activities including live entertainment and music by DJ Matthew Martin and photos by the wrench. DETAILS

Harrisburg – Strawberry Drop and Fireworks Second Street – 9 p.m. to midnight
The event kicks off at 9pm with a Kid’s Glow Party, balloon drop, face painting, crafts, and more. A DJ will be spinning the tunes and free hot cocoa starting at 9pm in front of City Hall until midnight when the strawberry drops. DETAILS

Lancaster – Red Rose Drop  – 8 p.m. to Midnight– Clipper Magazine Stadium, Lancaster
Live music by DJ Mike Miller, concessions kids’ activities, light show, and fireworks. DETAILS

Gettysburg – Raising Abe Lincoln’s Hat  – 4 to 12:30 p.m. – Lincoln Square
Craft and vendor show, music and dancing, family activities, and food trucks. A 14-foot stove pipe hat will be raised at midnight.

Hershey – Raising of the Hershey Kiss – 7:30 p.m. to Midnight – ChocolateTown Square
Live entertainment, vendors, and a dance party. Kid’s bubble wrap stomps will take place at 11 a.m. 1 p.m.,and 8:30 p.m. Live music with Fully Stocked and Burn the Jukebox. The Hershey Kiss will rise at midnight with an immersive display that everyone will be able to see. DETAILS

Chambersburg – Martin’s Potato Roll Drop – 6 to 9 pm – Chambers Fort Park, Chambersburg
DJ, kid’s activities, including a candy scramble at 8:30 p.m. DETAILS

New Bloomfield – Huckleberry Drop – 10 p.m. to midnight. New Bloomfield Square
Music, dancing, free hotdogs and hot chocolate. DETAILS

York – White Rose Drop – 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Continental Square.
Music beginning at 8:30 p.m. Live entertainment, dance party and fireworks when the white rose drops. DETAILS

Ephrata – Raising the Green Dragon – 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Downtown
Live music from Big Fat Meanies, food trucks beer garden. DETAILS

Kennett Square – Mushroom Drop – 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Town Square
Love bands, stage shows, food trucks and a laser light show. DETAILS

Shippensburg – Anchor Drop – 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. King Street between Penn and Earl Streets.
Free family event open to all.

Bethlehem – Peeps® Drop – 3 to 6 p.m. December 30 and 31 – SteelStacks
The two-day PEEPSFEST®! includes live music, entertainment, and family-friendly activities throughout the event
culminating with a giant illuminated PEEPS® Chick, weighing in at 400-pounds and standing tall at four feet and nine inches,
dropping to welcome in the New Year on both days at 5:35 p.m.  Fireworks. DETAILS

Red Lion – Cigar Rise – 10 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. – Center Square
Music, dancing and more. Come on out and celebrate the new year! DETAILS

Hallam/Hellam – Shoe Drop – 7 p.m. to midnight – 163 East Market Street
Free entertainment for the whole family, DJ, raffles and more. DETAILS
