New Year’s Eve Drops (and raises) in PA

Towns throughout Pennsylvania bring in the new year by dropping or raising objects that are associated with the town. Some honor their history and others celebrate with objects that reflect the town’s name. Each event is a treasured slice of Americana that I hope continues for generations.

Lebanon – Bologna Drop 10 to midnight – South 8th Street, between Chestnut and Cumberland Streets.
Music from DJ Ryan Downes. Following the festivities, the bologna will be donated to the Lebanon Rescue Mission. DETAILS

Dillsburg – Pickle Drop – 4 p.m. to midnight – S. Baltimore Street.
Kid’s games and activities followed by a baby pickle drop at 7 p.m., at Dillsburg Elementary, with bingo at 8 p.m.
Food available. Pickle Drop and fireworks in the parking lot by Ace Hardware. DETAILS

Mechanicsburg – Wrench drop – 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in front of the Washington Fire Company
Family-friendly activities including dancing and music by DJ Rick Murray and photos by the wrench. DETAILS

Harrisburg – Strawberry Drop Second Street – 9 p.m. to midnight
A DJ will be spinning the tunes in front of City Hall until midnight when the strawberry drops.
Kid’s activities inside City Hall with (1000) balloon drop at 10 p.m., face painting, milk and cookies toast and more. DETAILS

Lancaster – Red Rose Drop  – 9 p.m. to Midnight– Binn’s Park
Live music and family friendly activities.

Gettysburg – Raising Abe Lincoln’s Hat  – 6 p.m. to midnight – Lincoln Square
Music and dancing, family activities, and food trucks. A 14-foot stove pipe hat will be raised at midnight accompanied by fireworks

Hershey – Raising of the Hershey Kiss – 8 p.m. to Midnight – ChocolateTown Square
Live entertainment, vendors, and a dance party. Kid’s bubble stomps will take place at 11 a.m. 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
The Hershey Kiss will rise at midnight with an immersive display that everyone will be able to see. DETAILS

Chambersburg – Martin’s Potato Roll Drop – 5 to 9 pm -Chambers Fort Park, Chambersburg
DJ, kid’s activities, including a candy drop at 7 p.m. DETAILS

New Bloomfield – Huckleberry Drop – 10:30 p.m. to midnight. Town Square
Refreshments and music. DETAILS

York – White Rose Drop – 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Continental Square.
Music beginning at 9:30 p.m. with fireworks when the white rose drops. DETAILS

Akron – Shoe-In – 9 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. Broad Street Park
DJ, free food, hayrides and cornhole before the shoe drops at midnight. DETAILS

Kennett Square – Mushroom Drop – 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Town Square
Tons of activities from live entertainment, food trucks and a laser light show. DETAILS

Shippensburg – Anchor Drop – 8 p.m. to midnight. King Street between Penn and Earl Streets.
DJ Wheelz will be spinning the tunes plus other family friendly activities including, bounce houses,
giant slide and a 128-foot obstacle course.

Bethlehem – Peeps® Drop – 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. January 30 and 31 – SteelStacks
The two-day PEEPSFEST®! includes live music, entertainment, and family-friendly activities throughout the event
culminating with a giant illuminated PEEPS® Chick, weighing in at 400-pounds and standing tall at four feet and nine inches,
dropping to welcome in the New Year on both days at 5:35 p.m.  Fireworks.

Red Lion – Cigar Rise – 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. – Center Square
Music, Confetti Cannons, Free Noise Makers. Come on out and celebrate the new year! DETAILS
