Join us on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. EDT, when Dr. Emily Sneff, an early American historian and leading expert on the Declaration of Independence, will deliver a lecture titled “When the Declaration of Independence Was News” at the United States Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC).
The lecture will explore how the Declaration was communicated to people in the new nation and around the Atlantic world. Revealing the stories of the many people involved in the process of declaring independence, from printers to soldiers to diplomats to translators, this presentation will focus on how the Declaration spread to George Washington and the Continental Army at a pivotal moment in the war.
The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. EDT. Following the lecture, Dr. Sneff will be available for a book signing and Q&A session. Copies of “When the Declaration of Independence Was News” will be available for purchase
