Cressona, PA 17929

The South Schuylkill Garden Club will be hosting an educational bus tour to Chanticleer & Jenkins Arboretum in Warren, PA. The tour will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Bus leaves the Giant Parking lot in Cressona at 8 AM and returns to the parking lot at 6 PM. The cost for the trip is $75.00 payable to SSGC. Reservations deadline is April 15, 2025. Further information can be obtained by contacting Carol Haldeman by phone or at chaldyjr@gmail.com.

Within 30 minutes of Philadelphia, Chanticleer is one of the great gardens of the Region. Once the home of the Rosengarten family, today’s Chanticleer is a colorful, contemporary garden within a historical setting. Chanticleer has been called the most romantic, imaginative, and exciting public garden in America.  The garden is a study of textures and forms, where foliage trumps flowers, and the gardens lead the design. With over 15 gardens, woodlands and meadows, Chanticleer is a wonder to behold for the gardener. Chanticleer will provide gardeners with pleasure, relaxation, learning, and with ideas to take home.

The gardens at Jenkins Arboretum showcase a rich tapestry of curated plant collections, including breathtaking azaleas and rhododendrons grown alongside plants native to the eastern United States. Take a serene walk through the tranquil spaces that invite visitors to immense themselves in nature through the environment.

The trip is a rain or shine event. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Make your reservations early as the bus will fill quickly with many of the gardeners in the area. You certainly don’t want to miss this tour to learn about and bring back knowledge on how to improve the gardens in your own backyard.
