Selma Bortner: The Journey
The Michener Art Museum is excited to present the works of Selma Bortner (1926-2019) in the exhibition Selma Bortner: The Journey, on view through July 26. Bortner was a highly experimental printmaker who would often combine different techniques to create imagery inspired by folklore and myth. The artist typically hand-colored her prints, creating unique works that examine topics surrounding Bortner’s autobiography, current events, and social justice. Bortner was a successful artist, exhibiting her work locally and internationally. She was also a beloved professor at Bucks County Community College and taught for over twenty years. To celebrate Bortner, who passed away in August 2019, this exhibition features some of the artist’s most iconic prints from her family and the Michener’s permanent collection. The exhibition program in the Bette and Nelson Pfundt Gallery is presented by Vivian Banta and Robert Field.
