The HUB-Robeson Galleries are proud to present Hybrid Zones, a collaborative exhibition by artists Rachel Bacon and Meredith Davenport, on view in the HUB Gallery from November 6, 2025 – March 8, 2026. An artist reception and public conversation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Hybrid Zones is an immersive exploration of the post-industrial landscape of Eastern Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal region. Through drawing, photography, and video installation, the artists trace the environmental and psychological imprint of centuries of resource extraction. In this powerful new body of work, Bacon and Davenport confront the entanglement of human and nonhuman systems, reflecting on how deeply industrial history is inscribed into the land—and into us.
Working as research partners since 2017, Bacon and Davenport investigate how natural and human-made systems have grown so intertwined that they can no longer be untangled. Slag heaps transform into forests; acid mine drainage becomes raw material for photographic emulsions; and archival maps bleed into reimagined geographies. Their work challenges the anthropocentric gaze and asks: What does it mean to see the landscape as a living archive of both damage and resilience?
