Hopewell Furnace Christmas
Hopewell Furnace showcases an early American landscape of industrial operations from 1771-1883, Hopewell and other “iron plantations” laid the foundation for the transformation of the United States into an industrial giant for the time. The park’s 848 acres and historic structures illustrate the business, technology and lifestyle of our growing nation.
The National Park Service (NPS) invites the public to celebrate a Hopewell Christmas and stroll through the historic community of Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. This free event features Christmas as celebrated during the 19th century at Hopewell Furnace. The program will be presented rain or shine.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience and engage with various Christmas traditions from the early/mid 19th Century. Activities from previous years include: gingerbread ornaments, creating holiday decorations out of greens and other natural sprigs, the traditions of writing holiday letters and cards, plus discovering the customs, foods, and traditions of the holiday season from an early American perspective.
Support for these programs comes from park volunteers, the Berks and Chester County Master Gardener chapters, and the Friends of Hopewell Furnace.
