Chiaroscuro - Without Light There Is No Darkness Exhibit

The SHAPE Gallery is pleased to present the 16th annual Members Show “Chiaroscuro – Without Light There Is No Darkness”  This exhibition is proudly sponsored by First Energy Foundation.  Chiaroscuro was a term used during the Italian Renaissance.  Chairo in Italian means bright and Oscuro in Italian means dark, this art form was popular in the 16th century using the light and dark in combination.  This theme was chosen as we are exploring our own Renaissance with our adjustments to life during and after a pandemic of global proportions.  Our members have shared their interpretation of Chiaroscuro with many different mediums.  We have paintings, photography, pottery, and other textiles for this show.  Some pieces show a spiritual reflection of the constant battle between light and the dark, others used natural light to add contrast to the shadows, and some use just a splash of light so you can peer into the darkness.   SHAPE Gallery hours: Wednesdays through Fridays 5 pm -8 pm, Saturdays 10am to 4pm. SHAPE Gallery’s openings and exhibits are always free and open to the public.
