1776 The Musical

1776: A Musical Celebration of Freedom
250 years ago, a handful of determined men gathered in Philadelphia and faced a question that would change the world: What does it mean to be free?
Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence with 1776, the Tony Award winning musical that brings the birth of our nation vividly, and surprisingly humorously, to the stage.
As John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and their fellow delegates debate, argue, compromise, and struggle to find the courage to declare independence, 1776 reminds us that history is not made by monuments or dates on a page. It is made by people; passionate, imperfect, courageous people, who dare to imagine a different future.
Featuring the memorable music and lyrics of Sherman Edwards and the acclaimed book by Peter Stone, 1776 The Musical brings the summer of 1776 to life with wit, drama, unforgettable characters, and powerful songs. From the spirited debate of “Sit Down, John” to the stirring “Molasses to Rum,” and the soaring “Is Anybody There?”, this classic musical captures the conflict, idealism, humor, and uncertainty behind one of the most consequential moments in American history.
This year, don’t just celebrate the Declaration, experience the story behind it.
Join us for 1776 The Musical and relive the extraordinary summer when a bold idea became a declaration, a declaration became a revolution, and a new nation began.
Two hundred and fifty years later, the question still resonates: What kind of nation do we choose to be?
1776 The Musical. A celebration of history. A celebration of freedom. A celebration of America.
