First Bank of the United States’ Historic Reopening and Public Ribbon Cutting
Join Independence National Historical Park and Independence Historical Trust to celebrate the grand reopening and public ribbon cutting for the historic First Bank of the United States.
Following a multi-year, $43 million rehabilitation, the landmark building will reopen to the public for the first time in decades as part of the national lead-up to America’s 250th anniversary.
Originally chartered in 1791 under President George Washington and Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, the First Bank played a central role in establishing the nation’s early financial system and strengthening the authority of the newly formed federal government.
The July 1 ceremony will feature remarks from representatives of Independence National Historical Park, Independence Historical Trust, Drexel University exhibition partners, government officials, major project supporters, and other invited dignitaries, followed by the official ribbon-cutting and reopening of the building to the public.
