Ka-Pow Boom! Exhibit Open House & Special Presentation
The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) will host an open house and special presentation in connection to our new exhibit “Ka-Pow Boom! Understanding the Soldier Experience through Comic and Illustrative Art”. Join us for an inside look at all the exhibit has to offer.
Activities include interaction with and commentary from the exhibit curators. Writer, former military strategist, and U.S. Army veteran Steve Leonard will deliver a presentation on his comic series “The Further Adventures of Doctrine Man”. He is set to discuss the origins and inspiration for the iconic comic strip, and the impact it’s had on the U.S. Army.
“Doctrine Man” is one of the many comics on display, alongside a wide variety of other pieces showcasing the use of comics in an Army context spanning multiple eras, including original World War One and World War Two comics. These popular storytelling mediums and modes of expression afford the audience a different perspective of Army life, providing a glimpse into the complex experience of the American Soldier.
The exhibit reflects USAHEC’s contemporary approach in connecting the American people to their Army, enabling them to better understand the Soldier experience by displaying the Army’s rich historical collections in new and thoughtful ways.
Join us at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 01, 2023 at 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013. Steve Leonard’s presentation will be livestreamed on https://www.armywarcollege.edu/live/. The exhibition is also available online for our world-wide audience to enjoy at any time.
